How to Detail the Interior & Trim
In this section we will cover some tips and tricks to making your interior look great. A clean interior helps maintain resale value, creates a positive image and reflection of your care for your vehicle and is good for you.
Cleaning the interior helps to reduce dust particles and odors from the vehicle that you breath in while you are driving around town.
Like proper care for the exterior, proper interior care and cleaning takes time but is well worth the effort. Besides, who does love a clean car?
We will cover some of the basics and add more material as we go. Some of this may be very basic.
Clearing the debris is the important first steps. Getting rid of all the drive thru bags, receipts, straw wrappers, loose change, and if you have little ones, like we do, all of the crusty and petrified surprises you may encounter. And hopefully you don't find one of those 3 day old bottles or sippy cups!
When you are free and clear from debris, its time to vacuum. Make sure you utilize all the attachments, especially the crevice tool. Start from top to bottom with the headliner, then the seat backs and then the seat bottoms to ensure you are picking up all the dirt and crumbs along the way. The crevice tool is great for getting in the seams of the leather or upholstery where all dirt goes and never comes out - with patience all the dirt will come out. The crevice tool is also great for the hard to reach areas like in between the seats, in the cup holders, and in the gear shifter. Finish vacuuming the floor and remove the floor mats to be cleaned and vacuumed separately. Do not forget to do the trunk or rear cargo area.
Use the soft attachment to vacuum plastic or sensitive areas like the dashboard.
Now time for interior detailing. A perfect way to make your interior sparkle, is to use interior cleaner like our Bull Shine Interior Cleaner. Our interior cleaner is great for leather, vinyl and plastics.
- Spray Shiney's Bull Shine Interior Cleaner directly on a microfiber towel or soft bristle brush.
- Agitate area to be cleaned to remove dirt, grime and oils.
- Wipe of area with a clean microfiber towel to remove any excess.
Use detailing brushes to clean out of the dust from vents and vent covers and use microfiber towels to dust and clean the dashboard or other trim panels.
Be careful with plastic trim covers such as instrument panels as the soft material can be scratched easily. Do not use throw away, box store microfiber towels on these surfaces. They will scratch the surface - use soft, high GSM microfiber towels.
Also, be careful with LED screens. Cleaners should not be used on LED screens and need special care. Consult your owner's manual for more care instructions.
These are some quick and basic steps to helping you make your interior look great. More information to come.
